Sports Corner

Last week saw us celebrate the contributions our students have made to co-curricular and sports programs at the College, as we recognised the individual and team efforts of our sporting stars. Events such as this make us reflect on the year that has passed and I look back on the year in Sport with many fond memories. From being able to host 3 sports carnivals, eagerly watched on by families and the College community, to having numerous students trial and achieve success in their chosen sporting field. Some words come to mind such as teamwork, participation, resilience, persistence, and courage. I have been blown away by acts of kindness and support, such as when our secondary students assisted our Kindergarten and Year 1 students swim 25m in the ‘big pool’. I was inspired by our Year 12 cohort who participated in large numbers at all carnivals and were true role models for their peers in the manner they cheered on and encouraged each other. I was humbled by the resilience and commitment shown by students who trained for weeks leading up to a competition, only to have it cancelled due to Covid. I congratulate all students who participated in Sporting teams and events this year and welcome your involvement next year. I encourage all students to trial for various College teams in 2022 and we look forward to seeing you out there.

During our Sports Presentation, we were lucky enough to speak with Rohan Browning, the Australian 100m sprint champion and cult-figure Olympian. Rohan spoke thoughtfully throughout the interview, discussing how he manages the challenges of being an elite athlete, particularly in the era of a pandemic, and what drives him to become the best he can be. His advice for us all was incredible and I am have no doubt students took something away from his words.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the staff, family members, and students who have assisted in the coaching and/or running of our sporting teams this year. Your time, patience, hard work, and encouragement are greatly appreciated and I look forward to working with you in 2022.
