In amongst the rainy weather we have had further competitions to wrap up a busy term of Sport.
In the pool
Primary students attended the CIS Swimming and Diving Carnival at Homebush Aquatic Centre to compete in a variety of events. Well done to Kosta, Eva, Alexa, Lachlan, Isabelle and Emma on their efforts during the day. A special congratulations must go to Isabelle who finished 2nd in the 8 Year Old Girls 50m Freestyle, shaving an enormous 5 seconds off her personal best time! Another special congratulations goes to Eva who not only competed in swimming events, but also the 8 Year Old Springboard Diving, for which she came 2nd! Amazing!! We wish both girls all the best of luck at the NSWPSSA Carnival this week.
Secondary students attended the AICES Swimming Carnival held at Homebush Aquatic Centre last week. Well done to Hallie, Jazmine, Megan and Ryan on their efforts during the day. A special mention must also go out to our Boys 6 x 50m relay team who won the relay at HRIS. Well done, Ryan, Dylan, James C, Harrison, Max and James H. A huge congratulations to Hallie, Ryan and Megan who made the AICES team to attend the NSWCIS Swimming Carnival at Homebush next term. We will be cheering you on from afar.
On the field
Earlier this week, our Secondary Boys Bill Turner Cup soccer team played out a fierce game against San Clemente High School. Coming from a 5 – 0 down half-time deficit, our boys showed grit, determination and resilience to keep on fighting and ended up winning the second half. The game ended in a 6-2 victory to the opposition. We wish San Clemente High School good luck for the remainder of the competition.
Unfortunately the HRIS Secondary Soccer Trials (Boys) have had to be rescheduled until Term 2 due to the weather. We wish our students good luck at the trials.
On the track
With the rain and flood water subsiding, students were able to compete in the rescheduled Secondary and Primary Cross Country Carnivals during Sport time. With the sun shining and a warm 27 degrees, students impressed with their determination and effort in the gruelling races that varied in distance from 800m – 6000m. It was great to see the high levels of participation amongst students and the encouragement they gave to their peers as they ran past them. This was also evident in the Kindergarten ‘Fun Run’ held at the College on Friday morning. Year 5 students assisted and encouraged their Kindergarten buddies to complete the track around the K-2 playground. It was great to hear the positive language from the Year 5 students and see the enjoyment and excitement evident in our little ones. The College Cross Country Team to attend HRIS will be announced on Wednesday, 31st of March. Age champions will be announced in the first Primary and Secondary Assembly of Term 2.
