A big thank you to everyone in our community who has worked to ensure that our children and young people have experienced a successful term of learning and involvement in co-curricular pursuits. Camps, sporting teams and carnivals, and chess competitions were some of the highlights for our students.
More recently, it was a great honour for our College to, once again, host the Da Vinci Decathlon.
Over the last three days, teams of students in Year 5 to Year 10 from Hunter Region schools came together for an academic competition designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of students, who compete in teams of eight across 10 disciplines. All tasks in the da Vinci Decathlon emphasise higher-order thinking skills – assisting students to develop their abilities in analysis, synthesis and creativity. Congratulations to all our students who competed in the competition and the attending schools.
The good news when we recommence school after the Easter Break, in the light of the recent relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions, schools will be able to hold some of our Term 2 community events, under a COVID Safe Plan. Given that such community gatherings which serve to make connections and support one another were absent from our calendar in 2020, we are really looking forward to the annual Mother’s Day Breakfast, Hospitality Showcase Dinner, Year 12 Trivia Night, Alumni Night and College Open Day Event. Further advice about the events parents will be most welcome, will be soon available. I hope to catch up with families at these events.
Recently we conducted interviews with people from our community who expressed interest in being members of the College Council and these applications have now been presented to the Newcastle Anglican Corporation. New members will commence their appointments from the May Council Meeting.
As we move forward into Term 2, we will be seeking Expressions of Interest for community members who would like to be considered for positions on the Parents and Friends Association. I will send a separate communication to ensure that all in our community receive this notice. I do encourage those who have suitable experience in leadership and management and would be willing to give their time and expertise to our community, to send Expressions of Interest to email@example.com. It would be a great step forward to re-establish this fund-raising and friend-raising function in our community.
During this Easter Season, I wish you a peaceful and holy Easter, mindful of the vulnerable in our community in need of our support and prayers.
