Congratulations to Year 12 students who celebrated their graduation at a COVID Safe Formal Dinner on Monday Night. While it was a small function for just staff and students to celebrate what has been an “unprecedented” end to schooling for this group of fine young people.  We are delighted to hear that a significant number are on their way to success in tertiary education in 2021. Unconditional offers have been made by universities here and elsewhere to twenty-seven students under the Schools Recommendation Scheme. No doubt this brings them one step closer to their career goals, and while we recognise that some may alter their preferences, the uncertainty has been reduced. We congratulate all our graduating students and look forward to hearing of their career journey as Alumni of Bishop Tyrrell. We hope that one day their stories will be featured in this newsletter!

Australian Business Week is in full swing for Year 10 students who are experiencing the challenge of setting up their own business with the assistance from local business owners and mentors who are “Zooming in” to be on hand. It’s an exciting week for students and teachers alike. Thanks to Mr Bull and teachers for creating this flagship programs for young people as we prepare them to be confident and courageous in the business world.

The Year 6 transition into secondary school is underway with eager young people trying out all of the secondary subjects, cooking pizzas, building boats, undertaking mapping exercises and completing exciting science experiments. It’s a joy to watch enthusiastic year six students interact with the secondary specialist teachers, make new friends and look forward to the next stage of learning. Providing an opportunity for Year 6 students to manage the transition into secondary school is vital to their success in the coming years. We look forward to January 27, when we welcome them into Year 7 again in the new year and are there beside them as they navigate new ways of learning in each subject discipline.
