It has been wonderful to welcome back our Preschool children this week and see lots of smiling faces eager to share the news of their holidays with the family. Thank you to all of the families that have shared photos of their family trips, the children have loved looking at these and discussing them with the class.

This week we have been talking about healthy eating and sometimes foods. The children are all very clever at knowing foods that are healthy to eat such as fruits and vegetables and foods that are best left at home such as sweet biscuits, cakes and muffins.

“We can eat fruit every day” said Eden
“Pancake with sprinkles is a sometimes food,” said Matilda
“Carrots are everyday food,” said Peyton

As part of the activities of the healthy eating week, the children have been involved in making individual fruit kebabs and their own healthy face sandwich.

The children were all able to name the fruits and vegetables we used on the kebabs and sandwiches. These include watermelon, apples, grapes, banana, cucumber, sultanas, tomato, capsicum, cheese and they all ate their healthy creations. They have also been engaged in group games such as healthy food bingo, stories, painting and group discussions. The Gem friends extended on this by adding an Indigenous Perspective and explored bush tucker through a factual clip.

“They eat kangaroo like we eat chicken,” said Adrian
“I’ve eaten bugs before, they were delicious,” said Kara
“I eat mint leaves, that’s just like a herb,” said George

Through this experience, the children are taking increasing responsibility for their own health and physical wellbeing.
